Fresh air injected into the exhaust systems of modified sportbikes can cause backfires in
the head pipes and muffle as unburnt fuel from modified fuel mapping combines with
additional oxygen and spontaneously ignites in a high heat environment. Driven smog
block off plates will stop these annoying and possibly damaging backfires from
occurring, while allowing you to remove a few pounds associated with the valves and
hoses of the emissions systems when removed from you bike. On late model EFI bikes
with O2 sensors (ESPECIALLY when using a Dynojet Power Commander V or
similar product with an autotune feature) the air injection system MUST be blocked
as it will introduce additional oxygen into the system that will cause incorrect readings
from the O2 sensor and make it impossible to get a correct state of tune!
